Agreement to Promote Cooperation on Key Practical Projects Reached at the 14th China-Bolivia Mixed Economic and Trade Committee

On the morning of 26th August, 2021, Wang Shouwen, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative and Benjamin Blanco, Bolivia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade co-chaired the 14th meeting of China-Bolivia Mixed Economic and Trade Committee via video. Rogelio Mayta, Bolivian Foreign Minister and Huang Yazhong, the Chinese ambassador to Bolivia delivered video speeches. Related departments from China and Bolivia also attended this meeting. The two sides exchanged ideas on implementing the consensus reached between heads of states, improving investment cooperation, deepening economic and technological cooperation, expanding cooperation areas and other issues and achieved practical results.

Wang Shouwen quoted President Xi Jinping that China always regards Bolivia as a good friend and partner and highly values the development of China-Bolivia strategic partnership. The two economies are highly complementary and enjoy a good foundation for cooperation and great development potential. In the first seven months of this year, the bilateral trade grew by 54% year-on-year. China also did its best to support Bolivia’s epidemic response and practiced the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind. China is willing to work with Bolivia to enhance cooperation on digital economy and green development, further tap the potential of bilateral practical cooperation, upgrade investment cooperation, expand and deepen economic and technological cooperation, and promote the high-quality development of economic and trade cooperation. China welcomes Bolivia to participate in CIIE and also more imports from Bolivia.

Blanco stated that China is an important partner of Bolivia and the two countries enjoy promising prospects for cooperation in various fields. Bolivia thanks China for its support and help in fighting against Covid-19. Bolivia hopes to leverage the leading role of the mixed economic and trade committee in deepening bilateral practical cooperation, strengthening inspection and quarantine cooperation and promoting the balanced development of bilateral trade. Bolivia will continue to promote the alignment of development strategies of the two countries and explore new areas of cooperation. Bolivia welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest and operate in Bolivia and will continuously improve the quality and level of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

The two sides agreed to further join hands in fighting the epidemic, promoting consultation and exchange in fields such as investment, finance and inspection and quarantine, driving cooperation on key practical projects, promoting the signing of MOUs on investment cooperation on digital economy and green development, and exploring future cooperation projects such as sports training for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
