2020 China E-commerce Convention Opens in Beijing

The 2020 China E-commerce Convention was held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing on September 5. The Convention, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and themed in integration, contribution and win-win, is designed to discuss the new trend of international e-commerce development, share views on new models and new applications of e-commerce, unveil new achievements in e-commerce and foster new drivers of economic growth.

Vice Minister of Commerce Qian Keming and Vice Mayor of Beijing Municipal Government Yang Jinbai attended and addressed the opening ceremony. A licensing ceremony for newly added national e-commerce demonstration bases was held, together with the launching of the campaign of using e-commerce platform to benefit people and enterprises and the initiative of advocating self-regulation of live streaming e-commerce industry.

Qian Keming pointed out that China is committed to the development of e-commerce. Over the past decade, China’s e-commerce industry has enhanced the scale and quality, optimized the structure and efficiency, and accelerated innovation and integration, thus playing an increasingly prominent role. Since the start of this year, the e-commerce industry has contributed to fighting the pandemic, driving the recovery of consumption and keeping the supply chain and industrial chain for foreign trade intact. Going forward, with the strategic goal of breaking new ground in development in mind, China will create a favorable development environment, vigorously develop digital commerce, promote cross-border e-commerce development, deepen the development of rural e-commerce, carry out actions to benefit the people and enterprises, and expand international exchange and cooperation to accelerate the high-quality development of e-commerce.

Representatives from governments, international organizations, foreign embassies to China, academic institutions and e-commerce enterprises including James Kimonyo, Rwanda’s ambassador to China, and Sherali Saidamir Jonon, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, participated in the opening ceremony and the main forum.
